Hi Students,
Hope you are enjoying "Journey Back to Lumberjack Camp", it was really fun to research. Generally, before I write a book, I spend 3-5 years researching and learning about the period of time I am going to write about. This is all part of my pre-writing activity.
Writers should never write, unless they know what they are writing about!
With this book, I was working in a lumber museum doing research to find interesting "facts" concerning the lumbering industry. I had nearly 8 years of research material, I had collected for the museum, which made it perfect for me to write this book.
When I combined my family stories about lumbering with the research, I had a clear picture of what the lumbering industry might be like.
I have always wished I could time travel. How about you?
If you were going to time travel, where would you travel too?

If I could time travel, I would love to travel back in time to the pioneer days. Starting my own garden, making everything from scratch, and family and stories being my life would be a neat change. Having all family members in such close quarters would be very interesting yet so meaningful. I love to hike in the woods so being able to walk out the back of my log cabin and not seeing a house for miles would be amazing and peaceful. I know this time period was physically exhausting so I'm sure I would be a wimp and want to come back to everyday life fairly quick as I would miss our technologies but I am really intrigued with a natural way of living.
I would go back way way way way way before I was born so I could see what it was like. Then I would see what it was like with no cars and Electricity.
I have always wished I could time travel. How about you?

If I could travel back in time I would travel to the old west so I could have fun roping a bull and I would ride bulls in the rodeo.I would drive cattle every where I would want and I hunt down bad guys when they where trying to get away . I would go and eat as much as I could and I would travel every where with my dog and I would go with my dad to work and I would hunt any where I would want.I would help my ma in the kitchen and I would help my dad build deer stands so we could make some money off the deer hide. I I would go hunting with my dad for coyote and fox so we could make some money off of their hide to. I would go and help my brother and I would help my grandpa in the field and plow up the dirt and I would ask my grandma to make me some food.
