Please remember to type your comments in WORD so you can save and spellcheck. Also, keep the rubric we created in mind as you write.
1. Pretend you are Gus and you plan to write a letter home to your mother. Be sure to use good word choice (perhaps some lumberjack lingo) and a lot of details of your adventures as a lumberjack. You might also want to include what you miss about home. The letter should be at least 5 sentences long but can definitely have more.
2. After you read chapter 12 decide how you think Gus and Alex were saved after the accident? (who or what saved them)
3. Decide if you think Alex learned a lesson.
4. If you had a dream like Gus did, where and what period of time would you like to experience? Remember to include specific details of what you would do at this place.

dear Mom, I really want to go home. There was a big fight at the cookshack because there was salt in the black lead. Everybody thought I did it but Alex did it and I got in trouble for it. So I had to grease Alex’s and the Big Push’s boots. I am about the only one who can read.
2. After you read chapter 12 decide how you think Gus and Alex saved after the accident?
I think that Napollian saved them.
3. Decide if you think Alex learned a lesson.
I think Alex learned a lesson because if you get someone in trouble you will probably get in trouble to.
4. If you had a dream like Gus did, where and what period of time would you like to experience? Remember to include specific details of what you would do at this place.
I would want to experience when Indians were alive because I would get to see how they made stuff and see what they did in their free time.

Dear mom,
I’m sending you a letter because your probably worrying about me but I’m ok. I’m living in the lumberjack camp in the woods somewhere. What I’m doing in camp is milking cows (all you have to do is squeeze and pull), setting the table for dinner, breakfast and lunch, reading to the lumberjacks, making slappers ( pancakes) and lots of other things too.
The Big Ppush at the camp is very mean to me but nice to Alex it’s so not fair and he made me clean his and Alex’s boots. Bhut I’m having fun though.
2. After you read chapter 12 decide how you think Gus and Alex saved after the accident? The bear Napoleon and Gus scared the cougar away from the accident by throwing rocks, being quiet and showing your sharp teeth and growling. Those two saved the day.
3. Decide if you think Alex learned a lesson. I think Alex learned a big lesson from the accident and at school for doing all that horrible things.
4. If you had a dream like Gus did, where and what period of time would you like to experience? Remember to include specific details of what you would do at this place. I would want it to be at the same place where Gus was because after I read the book I thought it was really good and it really planted a picture in my mind at the lumberjack camp.

Dear Mom,
I miss you so much. I do not like Alex. He is such a brat. He put salt in the coffee(they call it black lead here) and then he blamed it on me!!!!Since he did that I am getting kicked out. I have no idea where I am going so I hope I see you. He has done so much bad stuff I am just glad I can get away from him and his dad BIG PUSH!!!!!!!!
2. After you read chapter 12 decide how you think Gus and Alex saved after the accident? I think that the bear saved them because the cougar is afraid of the bear. I once went to Canada and we set out a ton of candy and food so that the bears could come and eat it but before we left me or my sister Lauren would get to eat a piece.
3. Decide if you think Alex learned a lesson. I think Alex learned that being bad some how will always get you in trouble.

Responed by Emmalou:~)
Response to Maegan B 3
On #4 I said I would want to go to Disney world so I could meet a ton of stars. I have gone to Disney land but I have never been to Disney world. I wonder what you would do if you met a star. I would probably freeze right in my tracks. IT WOULD BE SO COOL TO SEE A STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I wonder what star I would see. My cousin went to a David Archuleta concert. I have never been to a concert except for when I went to a fair and these people were playing and singing. I had no idea who they were though so I don’t know if they were famous
I response to Kirsten. I agree with you on number 3 because Alex should get in trouble because he was being mean.I also think that on #4 it was funny.
Dear mom,
I do not like this place. The Jacks thought that I put salt in their blacklead. My job is to clean/set and cook grub. It’s called the cookshack. Alex is very mean. He is the man who put the salt in the blacklead. Miss Addie is nice to me. She works in the cookshack. The beds have lice in them. The place stinks like men. I wish I could go home because the beds have lice in them. I will come back soon!

Dear, Mom
If your wondering where I am, I am in a woods with some lumberjacks and this kid is a lot like Al. He made me get in trouble by saying that I put salt in the sugar bowls. Then his father the big push said that I have to be out of the camp by the end of the week and I would have to grease his boots to pay back for the money they paid on my boots. Then his dad didn’t like it when my friend Tommy said that he was not going to let the big push make me and Alex go out on a horse carriage and settle out what we needed to settle. Then the big push said that Tommy needed to kill his pet bear so Tommy went out and then we heard two gun shots and then I almost cried. And the he walked back to the barn with a chain and he hung it up and when we were driving down the road just me and Alex I saw something move through the woods. Then the horses went crazy and me and Alex fell to the ground and there was coffee in the back of the carriage and it fell all over my hands. And then I tried to get to my feet and I saw Alex screaming my name saying help me try to get my foot out from underneath here. And then the cougar ponsed out of the woods and I heard something in the woods and it ended up being Tommy’s pet bear. And he scared away the cougar and Tommy and the big push came after us and the big push said that I’m a real hero.

And there is some kid named Alex. He hates me because I can read and he cant. So he got me in trouble with the boss. By putting salt in everyone’s drink. So the boss said I had to clean Alex and his boots. But then I went to the bunk house to clean the boots and someone was reading a book and he was having a hard time reading. So I said I would read then someone named rat tail said if you read I will clean the boots. Then I had to take it so I read them a story with out stopping . Quite a story Wright. I agree with you
Dear mom,
I miss you so much. When I get home I’m going to try drinking black lead! For breakfast the lumber jacks got in a food fight because there was salt in the sugar container and I got blamed for it. I made new friends and they are Tommy,Addie and Napoleon who saved my life when a big cat came but napoleon is a bear and I got to feed him by hand. They are so nice. I miss you .BYE!!!!
2. After you read chapter 12 decide how you think Gus and Alex were saved after the accident? (who or what saved them) The bear Napoleon and Gus scared the cougar away to help Alex.
3. Decide if you think Alex learned a lesson. I think Alex did learn a lesson because he could of brunt down the school.
4. If you had a dream like Gus did, where and what period of time would you like to experience? Remember to include specific details of what you would do. I would go to the period of time when Gorge Washington was president because I was Martha Washington for are wakes museum.

Dear mom,
I’m havin’ a great time here at camp. I hope you don’t start missin’ me to much, because I think the Big Push will make me stay here a while. Don’t worry about me, I’m doin’ fine. I met a friend here, miss Addie She is the cook here at camp and she is so nice. Tommy and miss Addie there the only nice ones almost. Sometime you should come and visit.
Love
Gus

Tommy’s bear Napoleon saved Gus and Alex. After Napoleon scared the cougar away some guys from camp came to see if they were safe.
3. Decide if you think Alex learned a lesson.
I think Alex learned his lesson after accident with the horses, because I think Alex found out that Gus is really nice instead of mean.
4. If you had a dream like Gus did, where and what period of time would you like to experience? Remember to include specific details of what you would do at this place.
I would want to go back to lumberjack time again to. I think it would be a lot different and fun. One thing that I would not like, is that I would have to work most of the day.
